Hilton Head is renowned for being one of the top vacation spots for everyone who loves beaches, tennis, golfing, fishing, and a great number of water sports—not to mention superb restaurants and fine shopping. While this embodies Hilton Head as a whole, there are actually many diverse Hilton Head Island communities which make up this whole. Whether you live on Hilton Head or are visiting as a guest, each Hilton Head community has something unique to offer.
Sea Pines Plantation was the 1st of the modern Hilton Head communities and served as the model for the additional communities. It is the largest of all the Hilton Head communities, and supports two harbours, four miles of beaches, the Sea Pines Racquet Club—home to some of the most excellent tennis training programs in the nation—and Harbour Town Golf Links, where you can play on the same Golf course used by the pros during the PGA tour.
For those curious in history, there are two Hilton Head communities waiting to be revealed. When Spanish explorers first landed on Hilton Head, they landed in the forthcoming home of the Spanish Wells community. Although it is a private community, it is perfect for those who want to escape from their hectic lives and get away from it all. The Port Royal Community is home to the original landing site of William Hilton, the explorer the island is named after. This community includes both a private residential section as well as a public resort neighborhood for guests.
There are many other Hilton Head communities just waiting to be explored. Hilton Head Plantation offers fine beaches, bike trails, four different outstanding golf courses, boating, outstanding tennis courts, and two different nature conservancy centers. Windmill Harbour is the ideal destination for boating and water sports enthusiasts, offering direct access to the famous Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Other famous communities include Palmetto Dunes, Indigo Run, Wexford, and Shipyard Plantation. Each of these Hilton Head Island communities has something unique to offer, and jointly they create the entire Hilton Head Island adventure.
